Ingrid Groeger-Stone (she\/her), based in Logan Village near Brisbane, Australia, is the owner of <\/span><\/i>Creature Connections<\/span><\/i><\/a>. She completed the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) <\/span><\/i>Dog Trainer Professional (DTP) program<\/span><\/i><\/a> under the guidance of Alexis Davison in May 2022. We had the chance to connect with Ingrid and learn about her training journey, as well as the inspirations that motivate her. Ingrid shared her deep passion for ongoing education and the importance of continuously refining skills. She encourages others to embrace lifelong learning while also trusting in the skills and knowledge they\u2019ve worked so hard to achieve.<\/span><\/i><\/div><\/div>

When did you start training, and how has the industry changed since you started training?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

I started training about 20 years ago, and over that time, I've noticed the industry becoming more dog-centered. Also, almost every trainer now has at least a basic understanding of shaping and positive reinforcement, which was not so common when I started. On the flip side, the industry has become increasingly polarized.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your favorite activity or sport that you do with your own dog(s)?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

I have been an operational Urban Search & Rescue dog handler and trainer for nearly 10 years, and it is by far my favorite activity. My pet dogs participate in mantrailing and scent work for fun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of dog training\/ dog sports, do you have any hobbies?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

I love spending time with my horses, hiking with my dogs, and reading books when I have time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you do to continue your training education?<\/b><\/p>\n

Lots! You could definitely call me a CE addict. I am currently working on my Master\u2019s degree in Clinical Animal Behavior and love taking online courses to stay up-to-date with the latest in training and behavioral science. I also participate in training workshops and get personal coaching to continuously improve my skills whenever possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who has been your inspiration in the animal training community?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
