Before you can react, your furry friend is already there, ready to claim the prize. Teaching your dog to resist the temptation of dropped food can be a game-changer, both for your sanity and your pet's safety. However, some dogs may find being blocked from accessing food or treats frustrating. Ash begins the process by tossing one treat and then placing the remaining food on the floor right in front of where Ash is sitting. She waits until Guava eats the treat and has returned halfway back to her, then marks the behavior with a \"yes\" to signal that a reward is coming. Ash immediately tosses another treat from the pile so that Guava walks away from her again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As this process is repeated, you'll notice Guava starting to slow down and hesitate when she's halfway to Ash, anticipating the marker and reward. To strengthen Guava\u2019s behavior of ignoring the food, Ash begins to delay the marker and the reward until Guava is returning close enough without being tempted to snatch up the food. As you will see at the end of the video, Guava is practically standing on top of the food pile without temptation.
