If your dog tries to follow, gently guide the dog back to the desired spot. Once your dog is staying when you move toward the gate, practice opening the gate and walking through it. Reinforce your dog for remaining in a \u201cStay\u201d position at each step.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this video, KPA CTP Breanna Norris is practicing opening and closing a gate while her dog remains in the \u201cStay\u201d position. She rewards her dog at each step: opening the gate, closing the gate and putting on her shoes, opening the gate again, and taking off her shoes.
